"We believe the harm currently being inflicted on the wedding industry is a direct result of the company evading accountability for years." - Jennifer Davidson in Newsweek
With nearly 60 years of combined experience at The Knot, we were company insiders—trusted, decorated, and embedded in its operations. But what we witnessed compelled us to speak out.
We’re exposing what we believe is a large, ongoing financial fraud scheme against American small businesses—one that’s been hidden behind the glossy branding of The Knot and WeddingWire, dba,'WeddingPro.' Our evidence demonstrates that millions of dollars have been taken from wedding vendors under false pretenses.
Unlike many former employees bound to silence by NDAs, we refused to surrender our voices. Guided by our First Amendment rights—and by our commitment to truth and the protection of others—we chose to shine a light on what others have been pressured to keep in the dark.
If you’ve had any past or current affiliation with the company and believe you hold information pointing to potential misconduct, now is the time to come forward and do the right thing — speak up to protect others.
*Individuals who report suspected misconduct are protected under federal whistleblower laws, including 5 U.S.C. § 2302(b)(8) and 41 U.S.C. § 4712. These statutes prohibit retaliation against individuals who disclose information they reasonably believe evidences fraud, gross mismanagement, abuse of authority, waste, or violations of law. Importantly, Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) cannot override or restrict an individual’s legal right to make such protected disclosures to government agencies, Inspectors General, or members of Congress. (See Report Fraud Tab or link to Form below)
If you feel like you’ve been scammed by The Knot Worldwide, you’re not alone. We’re speaking up for the thousands of vendors who believe they've been misled, financially harmed, ignored and locked into heavily one-sided contracts that deny vendors the right to seek justice in court.
Since 2015, we have raised concerns about thousands of wedding vendors being charged for advertising services that were either partially or never delivered—part of a broader financial fraud scheme. The impact of this misconduct has contributed to drastically inflated costs across the American wedding industry and has been shielded by the company’s alleged use of coercive contracts and restrictive non-disclosure agreements. In 2017, we reported the company to federal authorities. When we saw the pattern of deception deepen—and gathered what we believe is undeniable proof—we went public in 2023. Major outlets like The New York Post, Forbes, Newsweek, Business Insider, and The New Yorker have since investigated and reported on the alleged misconduct, including allegations that The Knot is sending fake leads to vendors.
Here’s who we are:
Jennifer Croom Davidson – Former Global Fashion Director with nearly 21 years of high-achievement at The Knot across both local and national sales divisions.
Cindy Croom Elley – Over 19 years as a distinguished Account Executive in the local division, departing in 2021 long-after new management took over - post acquisition of The Knot by WeddingWire.
Rachel LaFera – A highly-decorated performer, served 18 years in both local and national sales roles, rising to Director of Fine Jewelry.
More recently, Iowa Senator Charles (Chuck) Grassley, Chairman Committee on the Judiciary, sent correspondence to The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) asking what has been done to investigate allegations of misconduct on the part of The Knot Worldwide so that any potential violators could be held accountable and ensure consumers are protected.
On behalf of the American wedding industry, Senator Grassley is looking into the business practices of The Knot (dba WeddingPro, WeddingWire and The Knot) Vendors who believe they have been harmed - or employees wishing to share suspected wrongdoing - are directed to utilize the complaint form on the Senate Judiciary website to ensure their voice is heard. The form goes to Senator Grassley's investigative staff and is confidential.

We believe this longstanding scheme has been sustained by a deliberate veil of secrecy and deceptive branding—reinforced through non-disclosure agreements that suppress employee disclosures and vendor contracts embedded with coercive terms, including mandatory arbitration clauses, that effectively strip affected parties of any meaningful opportunity for relief or legal recourse. But the truth deserves daylight.
This isn’t just our fight—it’s yours too. Speak up and report your experience - your voice matters.

In our observation, The Knot Worldwide has kept their shady and illicit practices veiled in much the same manner as Harvey Weinstein; through a conglomeration of enablers, a power imbalance, unfair contracts, intimidation, and non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).
Common Allegations against The Knot Worldwide:
Thousands of American wedding professionals have raised serious complaints regarding the sales practices of The Knot and WeddingWire (dba “WeddingPro”). Vendors allege they are subjected to high-pressure sales tactics that steer them into unfair, one-sided contracts— before they have the opportunity to fully review the terms. Once credit card information is provided, vendors claim they are routinely billed beyond cancellation attempts and are denied access to the courts due to restrictive contract language that is overwhelmingly one-sided in the favor of The Knot Worldwide.
According to vendors—and corroborated by multiple current and recently departed employees—sales representatives promise fast returns on investment and a steady stream of viable leads. Many report being misled by a fraudulent “Love at First Sight” pricing scheme, in which they are pressured to sign up immediately to receive a discounted rate, with the caveat that the offer will vanish if they do not commit on the spot. These take it or leave it deals are untruthful according to The Knot Worldwide's employees and designed to create a false since of urgency to lock in unsuspecting vendors.
Vendors also assert they are rushed to sign-up through a digital contract platform, without adequate time for review, only to later discover they are locked into binding agreements with little to no recourse. The exceptional customer service touted during the sales process allegedly disappears once payment is secured. When vendors request recordings of the original sales calls—often to prove that The Knot violated verbal assurances—they are denied access to that material, leaving them unable to substantiate their claims.
Unhappy advertisers have described the experience as being "ghosted" and their credit cards charged for services after they tried to cancel - even if they attempt to cancel right after signing up. Many small businesses describe that during the sales pitch they were promised "they could cancel at any time" only to later learn that they are locked into a 12-month long, one-sided contract. A number of vendors have described their frustrated attempts to cancel their WeddingPro ad program as a game of "kick-the-can" and state their efforts to cancel go unanswered and ignored. Many claim they had to go to the extraordinary length of contacting their bank and cancelling credit cards altogether to escape. Recent employees have detailed that the company instructs the sales team to deliberately mislead prospective vendors to get them to sign up, and then 'gaslights' or intentionally confounds vendors' efforts to reach the company for help after the sale.
Vendors further allege that WeddingPro, leveraging what many describe as an effective monopoly in the industry, has driven advertising rates to unsustainable levels and created a coercive environment where wedding professionals feel unfairly compelled to advertise on the platform—simply to retain access to their own brand intellectual property (IP) and client reviews. Many vendor's allege their information was placed on the company's platforms without consent and has been used to financially benefit The Knot Worldwide and their marketplace database related to the company's longstanding "Freemium" program.
According to vendors, WeddingPro claims ownership over the vendor’s brand presence on its platforms (The Knot and WeddingWire), including control over business listings, images, and client reviews. Vendors report that even after attempting to end their relationship with the platforms, their brand identity and reviews remain published—without their consent or ability to manage —and are allegedly used to maintain traffic and credibility for WeddingPro’s marketplace.
Many vendors assert that their reviews are essentially ‘held hostage,’ leaving them feeling trapped in the relationship and that they did not understand what they were singing at the time - because the process was rushed and false-assurances were made by company sales representatives. Vendors have stated that they continue paying WeddingPro not for its advertising value, but simply to preserve access to their reputation and client feedback— assets they believe rightfully belong to them. Requests to have their brand presence removed from the platforms are routinely denied, according to these vendors, further reinforcing a dynamic that they describe as exploitative.
Common vendor complaints also describe that vendor advertisements are not appearing on the website in the agreed placements on The Knot's platforms. Many vendors state that they are paying to appear in top ad search results, only to find that their advertisement does not appear as agreed, or sometimes, not at all. This occurrence was well-documented goes back since at least 2015. According to current and recently-departed employees, this is still a regular occurrence that is well-known to company management.
One of the most widely known and alarming allegations against WeddingPro centers on claims that The Knot and WeddingWire are knowingly delivering “fake,” “bot” or “scam” leads to their advertising partners. These leads—purportedly from engaged couples seeking wedding vendors—are the core value proposition for businesses paying to advertise on the platform.
However, vast numbers of vendors allege that the leads they receive are fraudulent or artificially generated. In the view of many advertisers—and supported by accounts from former employees—these leads are believed to be created internally by The Knot and WeddingWire to fabricate the appearance of platform engagement and justify the cost of advertising.
With a combined six decades of insider experience at the company, we witnessed firsthand its capacity to deceive vendors, bend or break the rules, and silence both employees and clients through coercive, one-sided contracts. Beneath the polished exterior lies a deeply problematic culture that prioritizes profits over integrity and transparency.
Multiple recently departed employees have confirmed that these practices persist today. We believe the company’s carefully curated “pretty brand veil” has enabled it to conceal systemic misconduct in plain sight—shielding it from scrutiny while continuing to exploit American small businesses.
